Former police employee arrested for embezzlement

Detectives from the Marina Police Department arrested a former community services officer Wednesday in Salinas for allegedly embezzling department property.

The department said Santos Bautista, 58, had in his possession police uniforms, firefighter “turn-out” gear, radio equipment, vehicle light bars, animal “catch poles”, keys and handcuffs in addition to numerous other items.

The items were found in self storage lockers in Marina earlier this year.

Bautista was booked into Monterey County Jail on an arrest warrant charging him with embezzlement and possession of stolen property.
