Box truck carrying produce causes pile up on Highway 1 near Watsonville

CHP officers are on scene of a four car pile up on Highway 1 just outside of Watsonville.

Officer say a big hauling truck carrying produce was headed south on Hwy 1 when it rear-ended a Mercedes near Jensen Road. That collision caused the Mercedes to hit the car in front of it.
Three people, including a one-year-old, were taken to a local hospital.
Highway 1 southbound traffic is being diverted and because of that traffic is backed up for miles in both directions.

As of this post, CHP expects to have the scene clear sometime after 6 p.m.

A pick up truck also involved in the accident collided with the box truck in accident.
