Gilroy police plan motorcycle safety operation
Gilroy police will be conducting a specialized motorcycle safety enforcement operation on July 5.
Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur. They’ll be looking for violations made by drivers and riders alike that can lead to motorcycle crashes, and will be cracking down on those driving under the influence, speeding and making illegal turns.
Police say motorcycle accidents have been on the rise in Gilroy over the last several years, resulting in numerous injuries. Collision data shows the primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes are speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and drugs.
