Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies arrest man wanted out of Seaside
Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies say a Salinas man led them on a car chase early Sunday morning through the Carmel Valley and eventually ending in Monterey.
A deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 3 a.m. on Carmel Valley Road, but the driver failed to yield, leading the deputy and a Carmel police officer on a pursuit.
During the pursuit, deputies realized the vehicle was associated with 34-year-old Lawrence Basiden, who was wanted by Seaside police on a warrant for assault and contempt of court.
Basiden failed to negotiate two turns, colliding with the curb, and sped through red lights and stop signs, eventually stopping at Van Buren Street in Monterey, where he fled from the car.
Officers chased him on foot and were able to apprehend him. He was then turned over to Seaside police.
