Gas leak fixed at Presidio of Monterey

Presidio of Monterey officials say a gas leak that prompted the evacuation of five buildings on post earlier this morning has now been repaired.

The leak was initially reported at 7:30 a.m. and emergency crews responded.

As of 10:30 a.m., PG&E staff had fixed the leak and students and faculty had returned to their buildings.

Presidio of Monterey Fire Department staff walked through the buildings and confirmed they were safe before ending the evacuation.

During the event, the installation remained open, but the area around the leak was closed to all but emergency traffic.
