Fresno police fatally shoot suspected gang member

Fresno police officers fatally shot a 26-year-old man after authorities say he threatened them with a steak knife.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer told the Fresno Bee that the 26-year-old suspect fatally shot Tuesday was high on methamphetamine.

Dyer says the shooting occurred after officers responded to calls from the man’s family members, who said he was on drugs and had a history of violence.

Dyer says officers and the man’s family tried to negotiate with him for 45 minutes, but eventually entered the home with a police dog.

Dyer says two officers fired on the man from three-to-four feet away after the suspect threatened them with a steak knife.

Police say the man was a Bulldog gang member who was on parole, but did not release his name.
