Ex-Marina man pleads not guilty in toddler son’s death
A former Marina man has been extradited from Washington state to face charges stemming from the death of his 19-month-old son.
Brandon Kenney, 33, appeared in Monterey County Court Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges, including child endangerment resulting in death, child abuse, weapons possession and cultivation of marijuana.
He was assigned a public defender and is due back in court May 27 to confirm a preliminary hearing for May 29th. Bail is set at $500,000.
Kenney’s wife, Christina Kenney, also faces charges stemming from their son’s death. She remains in Washington facing other criminal charges there and will likely be transferred to Monterey County on May 28.
he couple was arrested last month at their residence in Tacoma, Washington by Marina police detectives and Tacoma police. Marina Police Commander Bob Nolan said the arrest came after an extensive, six-month investigation into their child’s death.
Authorities have not said how the child died.
The Kenneys left California and moved to Washington shortly after their son’s death.
