DMV preparing for new immigrant license law

3 state d-m-v leaders are still trying to develop regulations regarding the new law that will allow illegal immigrants to apply for a california driver’s license! they’re expecting one point four million applications under the new law — and are working with the department of homeland security on the design so they aren’t confused with official california i-d cards. 3 the new licenses only represent driving privileges — they can’t be used to vote, gain entrance to federal buildings or board airplanes. the dmv says the new immigrant licensing program will ensure the safety of all californians on the road. 3 of course there’s concerns out there on their immigration status and they want to make sure, that if i go into a dmv office is something going to happen to me… am i going to be sent back to the country i?m from and that?s not going to happen. after passing a driving test, immigrants can use their new licenses to register their car and apply for car insurance. the new type of licenses — must be ready by the first of the year.
