10-year-old Watsonville boy struck by car remains in coma
A 10-year-old Watsonville boy who was struck by a car about two months ago is in a coma, his mother told Central Coast News reporter Michelle Pulido.
Jesse Ventura was hit by a driver while he and his family were in a crosswalk near the intersection of Main and First. The boy was on his scooter at the time.
Watsonville police said at the time that the 19-year-old driver told officers she hit the boy because she sped up in an effort to make the light and was unable to stop in time.
The boy’s mother, Alicia Vazquez, said she heard the hard hit and she tried to grab her son but couldn’t.
“The driver was going so fast that my baby just flew,” she said.
She doesn’t know if her son will ever recover and doctors have told her that her son will never walk or talk again. Meanwhile, she has left her job in the fields to take care of her son but is now struggling financially.
Authorities have not identified the woman who struck Jesse and she has not been arrested or charged at this time.
