Woman expected to recover after being hit by car in Salinas crosswalk

Salinas police responded to a pedestrian accident Wednesday morning involving a 51-year-old woman crossing the street.

Cmdr. Dave Crabill says a 29-year-old man was driving eastbound on West Rossi Street shortly after 11 a.m., when he turned onto North Main Street on a green light. Crabill said in a news release, the female pedestrian walked into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

The vehicle was traveling at approximately 15 mph when it hit the pedestrian, said Crabill.

The woman was thrown up onto the hood, causing her to fall to the street. She striked her head on the pavement. She lost consciousness and had abrasions and lacerations to the left side of her head.

She was life-flighted to San Jose but is expected to make a full recovery, according to Crabill.
