Local Red Cross volunteers headed to post-storm Mississippi
Two local Red Cross volunteers are headed to Jackson, Mississippi this week to help those affected by the recent tornados and spring storms.
Marta Bennett of Carmel Valley and Lisa Ward of Seaside were slated to leave Friday to provide disaster mental health relief to affected families and responders.
So far, more than 85 Red Cross workers are helping out residents in Mississippi with more slated for deployment.
About 280 people spent Wednesday night in 25 Red Cross and community shelters in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
