Truck fire closes portion of northbound Highway 101 in King City
Crews responded late Tuesday morning to reports of a big rig on fire on the side of northbound Highway 101, just north of Broadway in King City.
The truck went off the roadway and struck the guard rail of the Salinas River Bridge and caught fire, blocking the fast lane. The driver was able to get out of the truck himself without injury and was picked up by his company, officials told Central Coast News.
No other vehicles were involved but the accident damaged the bridge. As of early Tuesday afternoon, one lane was reopened but California Highway Patrol officers were still on scene providing traffic control. Crews were also working to clean up about 30 to 50 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled on the road from the truck.
