City of Capitola reveals newest public art project
City officials in Capitola on Wednesday held a grand opening and reception for the city’s new streetscape public art project on 41st Avenue.
The 41st Avenue Streetscape Project features three thematic groupings of artwork installations along the median strips on 41st Avenue, from Gross Street to Brommer Street.
The first component is a grouping of sails, then several kayaks flowing through the trees in front of the Capitola Mall. Next is a grouping of surfboards in front of the Fairfield Inn.
Each sculpture is composed of multicolored crushed glass panels, created by Truckee-based artist Troy Corliss. Corliss was selected to create the piece through an open competition held by the Capitola Art & Cultural Commission.
The 41st Avenue Public Art Project is the largest public art project to date in the city of Capitola.
