Salinas police investigating D Street shooting
Salinas police officers say a 35-year-old man was shot Sunday night in the area of Mae Avenue and D Street.
Officers responded to the area just before 11 p.m. for reports of a victim with a gunshot wound.
The man, who officers say is a known gang member, was shot in the abdomen and leg. He told officers he was confronted by a group of males about his gang affiliation before being shot.
The suspect was described as a Latino male wearing a checkered shirt and dark pants. The victim was flown to a Bay Area trauma center for treatment and is expected to recover.
