Injured ducks from Salinas being treated by SPCA of Monterey County
Updated April 18, 2014 4:55 p.m.: The California Welcome Center said Friday that two more injured ducks have been found on the property.
The SPCA of Monterey County is following several leads in the case of more than a dozen ducks shot this week in Salinas.
Cathy Martin Silvery, manager of the California Welcome Center, came to work Tuesday to find 11 of the ducks at the center were dead. Another, named Tubby, was injured.
Two more ducks were found suffering gunshot wounds on Wednesday. The pond at the Welcome Center, located on the corner of West Laurel Drive and North Davis, is typically populated by about 50 ducks, both wild and domestic.
The 11 ducks that were killed will be x-rayed to see how they died.
Arnie, the domestic duck rescued Wednesday, is severely injured but SPCA staff are working hard to save him. The animal was found with six embedded pellets and multiple broken bones due to gunshot wounds. Arnie is on antibiotics and pain medication and receiving specialized care at the SPCA for Monterey County.

A wild mallard rescued Wednesday is suffering from two gunshot wounds.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for hurting the animals. Anyone with information about the case should call the SPCA at 373-2631 or make a report online.
