Salinas man gets 16 months in prison for food stamp fraud

A 32-year-old Salinas man is headed to prison for fraudulently collecting more than $2,000 in food stamps.

Michael Meza was sentenced this week to 16 months in prison for welfare fraud.

Prosecutors say he failed to report his income from a local packing company to the Department of Social Services and collected $2,362 in food stamps to which he was not entitled.

Meza will serve his sentence in the Monterey County Jail, according to prosecutors.
