Los Padres National Forest begins controlled burns
Los Padres Natonal Forest will start a series of controlled burns in the next several weeks.
Monday rangers announced plans to launch prescribed burns to eliminate piled brush and vegetation on the Santa Lucia Ranger District.
The brush was cut and piled during vegetation thinning projects around buildings throughout the district and on the Figueroa Mountain area.
The project will involve crews burning the treated vegetation in order to reduce hazardous fuel build up and to improve the health of the forest.
The project will begin when weather conditions and air quality are suitable for safely burning these fuels.
