Carmel woman leaves $9 million to animal shelters

A well-known Carmel resident who passed away two years ago has made a very generous donation to three dog rescue organizations.

Two of them are located here on the central coast. The SPCA for Monterey County and the Animal Friends Rescue Project in Pacific grove will each receive $3 million from the Estate of Karen Renate Ruhmann.

The SPCA says they’re very grateful for the generous donation and the dog adoption center will be named after Karen and her husband Lony.
