Woman killed in car-train collision in Morgan Hill
A 20-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with a Union Pacific cargo train Wednesday night, Morgan Hill police said.
According to police, it appears the woman was driving westbound on East Central Avenue from Butterfield Boulevard around 9 p.m. when she drove over a curb, onto the sidewalk and eventually onto the railroad tracks.
The San Jose-bound train struck the car head-on at a speed of approximately 40 to 50 miles per hour.The driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by Morgan Hill Fire personnel. She was transported to a hospital by CalStar, where she died of her injuries.
Toxicology reports are pending, police said. Union Pacific police and the Morgan Hill Police Department have initiated a concurrent investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Morgan Hill Police Department at 408-779-2101.
