Five arrested in Santa Cruz County during probation sweep
Five people were arrested in Santa Cruz County Wednesday during a probation sweep, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Sheriff’s deputies, Santa Cruz police officers and members of the County Probation Department’s Post-Release Community Supervision unit conducted an organized probation sweep of individuals with a known history of property crime offenses in the county.
Individuals were contacted at 14 locations throughout the county, resulting in five arrests. Those arrests have prompted additional investigations, said Deputy Ryan Kennedy.
The following individuals were arrested:
Thomas Dohnke – arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property and an outstanding warrant
Emily Duncan – arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and heroin, possession of stolen property and attempting to bring narcotics into the jail
John Ekizian – arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property and an outstanding warrant
Brooke McLean – arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and heroin
Jennifer Peterson -arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and heroin, attempting to bring narcotics into jail and four outstanding warrants

Under the state’s ongoing prison overhaul, also known as realignment, the responsibility for overseeing some individuals released from state prison was shifted from state parole agents to probation officers. These individuals are now placed on what’s called post-release community supervision, and individuals who fit this criteria are typically those determined to be low-level offenders. Local officers have no say over who is released on PRCS, according to the county probation department, and all jurisdiction is left up to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
