Monterey County library foundation gets $100,000 grant

The Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries is getting a $100,000 boost.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has awarded the organization a new grant to help cover the costs of two free youth literacy programs.

The programs attract thousands of students each year – with the Homework Center serving more than 20,000 students this past year. The 2013 summer reading programs involved some 2,500 readers and served as many as 7,500 students through its ongoing events.
