Monterey Community Gearing Up To Ring In New Year

There are many celebrations underway on the Central Coast to ring in the new year. Many cities have been preparing all year long and the big night is finally here.

Organizers of First Night Monterey have been working on setting up lighting, stages and sound systems all day long.

The parade kicks off at 5 p.m. Entertainment kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Alvarado Street until the clock hits midnight.

Organizers call it a “labor of love” and said they enjoy being able to celebrate with the community.

“The vibe with all the people here downtown once they get here is just so exciting. It’s a real kick for us to do this because the level of excitement is just so high,” said Bill Wagner, production manager for First Night Monterey.

The event is also a time families come together to celebrate the city’s unique culture.
