Salinas Teen Dies on Christmas Day After Being Hit By Car

Salinas police said that 19-year-old Daisy Ramirez Martinez died Christmas Day, almost two weeks after she was hit by a car.

Daisy was in the crosswalk at North Main and Navajo when she was hit, said police. The driver has been identified as 46-year-old Maria Arcega.

This has been a deadly year in Salinas for traffic accidents — this marks the 12th fatality in 2013. Salinas police said it is the most they have seen in a year. Over half of the fatalities involved a pedestrian, said police.
