Man Shot to Death in Salinas Saturday Afternoon

Police in Salinas have now confirmed that a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon is now being ruled a homicide.

Police say when they arrived on scene in the 700 block of Elkington Road, they found 23-year-old Netzahual Ruiz suffering from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told police that Ruiz had crossed paths with a Hispanic male in his early twenties when they started to exchange words. This is when things turned violent. Police say the altercation turned into a fist fight that ended with shots fired by the suspect. An additional gold 2004 Honda Accord also drove up and shot at Ruiz.

Ruiz was immediately transported to Natividad Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Right now police say Ruiz has an extensive gang member history with the Salinas Police Department.
