Salinas Councilwoman’s Son Pleads Not Guilty To Charges
A Central Coast councilwoman’s son accused of breaking down a bedroom door and biting a police officer faced a judge for the first time on Monday.
31-year-old Aaron Reyes, the son of Salinas Councilwoman Gloria De La Rosa, pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was arrested on Wednesday morning for battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and vandalism.
Police said Wednesday morning they responded to the 700 block of St. Michael Way after a female reported Reyes was acting violent. She ran to a neighbor’s house to call police.
This isn’t the first time De La Rosa’s sons have found themselves on the other side of the law. In 2002, her son Gabriel Reyes served time for trying to sell a gun on Facebook. The potential buyers that he met turned out to be officers. All those charges carried gang enhancements.
That put the councilwoman in the hot seat, as some in the community demanded she resign.
Aaron Reyes could face up to three and a half years in jail if convicted of the charges.
De La Rosa did not comment to Central Coast News on Monday. She said she would be available on Tuesday for an interview.
