Public invited to meeting addressing financial health of city of Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) There is a special meeting Monday evening to address the financial health of the city of Salinas.

The meeting is on "The Salinas Plan," which would adopt several recommendations to spare the city of possible bankruptcy.

The recommendations include:

• Establishing a rental registration and inspection program.
• Eliminating the downtown parking fund and increasing parking fees.
• Having the city hold the line on salaries for public service unions, like the police department.

All of the recommendations have sparked backlash from the public and private sectors.

The public can weigh in on "The Salinas Plan" Monday evening. Councilmember Steve McShane will debate the plan at a free fiscal sustainability and housing affordability meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall on Lincoln Avenue.
