(KION) Due to a new order from the USDA, the Los Padres National Forest and four Southern California national forests will temporarily not allow overnight camping in their developed campgrounds.

Officials with the Los Padres National Forest say the order was issued to protect visitors and employees by reducing the risk of potential exposure to COVID-19 and ease the strain on emergency personnel and healthcare facilities.

The order will be in effect starting Tuesday and through Jan. 6.

Hiking trails, dispersed camping and other day-use areas will remain open, but the Monterey Ranger District is still closed due to the Dolan Fire.
