One dead after crash on 101 in Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - A 30-year-old Salinas man is dead after a crash on US Highway 101. The crash happened Sunday, December 6, 2020 at about 8:45pm.

Police say the 30-year-old male was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on US-101 near Boronda Road. Witnesses tell police the Kawasaki lost control and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle rolled over the center divider before coming to a stop. The driver of the motorcycle landed in the northbound lanes of traffic in front of a Honda, which was traveling at 65 mph and was unable to stop. That Honda hit the motorcyclist who was pronounced dead at the scene by fire officials.

The 28-year-old driver of the Honda from Sunnyvale, California was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
