Regional Stay at Home Order daily COVID-19 update
A new public health order went into effect Saturday, December 5, which requires Californians to stay at home and close operations for certain sectors if their area's intensive care unit capacity drops below 15 percent.
The state has been broken up into the following five regions:
- Northern California: Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity
- Bay Area: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma
- Greater Sacramento: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba
- San Joaquin Valley: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, Tuolumne
- Southern California: Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura
The state included Monterey and Santa Cruz counties in the Bay Area region and San Benito County in the San Joaquin Valley when they divided up the state.

- Bay Area: 9.2%
- Greater Sacramento Region: 15.3%
- Northern California: 27.5%
- San Joaquin Valley: 0.0%
- Southern California: 0.0%
The Southern California, San Joaquin Valley, Greater Sacramento and Bay Area regions are subject to stay at home orders.
If a region's ICU capacity drops below 15 percent, certain sectors, including bars, distilleries, breweries, wineries, hair salons, barber shops and personal care services must close by 11:59 p.m. the next day. Restaurants, retail, shopping centers, hotels, and lodging will also have to make some modifications and require 100 percent masking and physical distancing.
