An administrator at California State Monterey Bay is facing serious allegations of domestic abuse.

Ronald Higgs pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. He is currently out on bond.

The allegations surround a night in late October when police responded to this home.

Higgs’ wife is reported to have been out with friends in downtown Carmel, when Higgs allegedly showed up and forced the woman into his car. Friends are said to have witnessed the incident.

Police were called and say that officers found the woman had been visibly beaten.

The 63-year-old is facing one felony count of corporal injury on a spouse. It is possible he could also be facing kidnapping charges.

Higgs is CSUMB’s vice president for student affairs and enrollment services and is currently on administrative leave.

In a statement, the school says "We are concerned about the scope of the charges facing Dr. Higgs, and we want to ensure our community that we take these matters seriously, while also respecting the personal privacy rights of all involved, as the legal process moves forward..."
