Warning period begins Friday for Salinas red light camera program

Salinas police announced that the department’s new Automated Red Light Camera Enforcement Program will begin issuing warning notices on Friday.

The warning period for 30 days. After that, the program will begin issuing citations to red light runners.

Police said the program is designed to make the streets safer by enforcing violations and making the public more aware of the dangers of running red lights.

They also said that the program comes at no cost to the city because it is funded by red light violators. Police estimate that the project will earn enough to pay for operating the equipment and issuing citations, but the city will get little or no income from it.
