The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office is looking for a woman who allegedly stole a man's dog as he was getting his surfboard out of his car at Moran Lake Park.
On Sep. 2, 2020, at around 5 p.m., investigators say a Santa Cruz County resident at the Moran Lake Park parking lot with his dog, Kata, when a woman in a green Subaru started a conversation with them.
As the victim was getting his surfboard out of his car, the sheriff's office says the suspect grabbed the dog, put it into her car and locked the doors. The man tried stopping the woman from driving away, but she allegedly narrowly missed hitting the victim with her car. She took Kata with her.
"The suspect was last seen leaving the parking lot on East Cliff Avenue towards 41st Ave. The suspect is described as a white female in her 30’s with short curly brown hair, glasses and wearing a black or brown sweatshirt with gray sweatpants," said the sheriff's office in a social media post on Facebook.
Kata is a 5-year-old Jack Russell Terrier-Beagle mix. She was wearing a blue harness with a green leash. Investigators think there was a witness nearby that may have photos of the suspect or her vehicle; they are looking to contact them or anyone with information regarding this case.
