Motorcyclist sustains life threatening injuries after overturning on highway 17

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) A motorcyclist is undergoing treatment for life threatening injuries after being involved in an accident along U.S. Highway 17 Friday.

The California Highway Patrol said the collision occurred along southbound highway 17 at 3:15 p.m., just north of Sugarloaf Road.

A 32-year-old Santa Cruz man was riding his motorcycle between lanes beside a 2014 Peterbilt truck, when he lost control of his bike and overturned on the roadway.

The Peterbilt, which was driven by a 54-year-old Los Banos man, was unable to avoid colliding with the motorcyclist and his bike.

The cyclist sustained life threatening injuries and has been transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for further treatment.

Drugs and alcohol are not thought to have played a role in this crash.
