One person killed in Salinas car crash
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) One person is dead after a fatal crash early Saturday morning near E Boronda Rd and Constitution Blvd in Salinas, according to the Salinas Police Department.
Commander Brian Johnson said neighbors heard a large explosion when they were called to the area just after 1:45 a.m.
Johnson said a Ford Fusion was speeding as it approached the intersection of E Boronda Rd and Constitution Blvd when the car struck a light pole which sheared the vehicle in half and caused it to catch on fire.
Salinas PD said it appears there was just one person in the car, the driver, who died in the crash.
They told us they don't know if alcohol was involved, but do know the car was traveling at a high rate of speed.
