Monterey Symphony postpones 75th anniversary season amid pandemic

CARMEL-MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Monterey Symphony announced today its 75th anniversary season opener in October has been postponed.

In a statement, the Monterey Symphony makes reference to a current resurgence of COVID-19 cases, the closure of the Sunset Center, and live performances falling under Phase 4 of the state's reopening process.

For these reasons, the Monterey Symphony board voted unanimously to postpone the season.

The 75th year was to focus on selecting the Monterey Symphony's next music director and performances celebrating the history of the orchestra.

The Monterey Symphony says they intend to still have some form of performances this year and will unveil its lineup in August.

Programming for the next year will see the release of archival recordings, musical postcards and Balcony Sessions performed from the Symphony's new offices in Carmel.
