Gov. Gavin Newsom announces PSA campaign to encourage face covering use

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 7/2/2020 12:30 p.m. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday that the state will begin a public service announcement campaign to encourage mask use.

There is a face covering order in effect statewide.

PREVIOUS STORY: Gov. Gavin Newsom is providing an update on California's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, Newsom announced that bars, movie theaters, indoor dining and other areas of business will be closing in 19 counties. Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties were not affected.

According to the California Department of Public Health, there were more than 232,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide as of July 1. There were 6,090 deaths.
