MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KION) A man was swept out to sea Saturday afternoon at Moss Landing State Beach and rescued by bystanders, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies got called out for a water rescue for a man on a boogie board who was swept out by the waves. Sergeant Dan Robison says the man is an experienced swimmer.

The man was pushed toward the mouth of the harbor and was even clipped off his board at one point. He was able to get back on.

The waves eventually pushed back the man toward the shore, where a couple of citizens got him out of the water. No rescue personnel were used at all. The incident was over when they arrived.

The sheriff's office says the man is OK and declined any medical assistance.
