Seaside officer arrested for battery in Monterey

Seaside police confirm that one of its officers, Juan Gomez-Vazquez, was arrested by Monterey police for battery early Tuesday morning.

The arrest came after an incident at the Bull and Bear Whiskey Bar and Taphouse on Alvarado Street. Gomez-Vazquez has been restricted according to Seaside police, so he cannot identify himself as an officer and will move to an office role during the court proceedings.

Seaside’s Police Chief said Gomez-Vazquez has his right to due process and the department will go through their own administrative process to decide further action.
