SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police have arrested a man accused of demanding jewelry posted on Snapchat at gunpoint.

At around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of an armed robbery on the 700 block of Elkington Avenue. The victim said an unknown person held a gun to his back, demanded his belongings and told him to get jewelry that he had posted on Snapchat from his apartment.

The victim told police the suspect told him to get the jewelry or his family would be killed, so he got it and handed it over. After that, police said the suspect told the victim not to call police or he would kill the victim and his family.

During the investigation, investigators identified the suspect as 19-year-old Eduardo Melgoza. Detectives worked with U.S. Marshals to conduct surveillance and arrest Melgoza during a traffic stop.

Detectives then served a search warrant at Melgoza's home and said they found gun parts and ammunition.

Melgoza was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

Anyone with information is asked to call Salinas police at 831-758-7321.
