SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) UPDATE 6/14/20: It's been a week since 27-year-old Aryton "Aaron" Reed was reported missing by his family.

"I was nervous, I was scared," Reed's aunt, Lynn Vazquez-Reed, said. "I was like, 'What? What’s going on?'"

Family members said they haven't had any contact with Reed.

Sunday, June 7 ,was the last time Reed's mother said she saw him. She said she assumed the 27-year-old left that afternoon for his part-time gig with DoorDash. But he didn't come home that night.

She said his friend reported seeing him at the Chipotle in downtown Monterey around 7 p.m.

"Then, when I texted him the next day, I didn’t get a response," Reed's mother, Ramona Olaeta-Reed, said. "And continued to text and everyone was texting and phoning him and we didn’t get anything."

“He left with the clothes on his back," Vazquez-Reed said. "Literally with the clothes on his back. He didn’t pack anything.”

The Monterey High School graduate was a running back on the football team. And family said he kept in shape throughout his military career.

He left the Navy earlier this year, just as COVID-19 hit. His mother said he had plans to become a firefighter, but those were put on hold because of the pandemic. So this was a transitional time in his life.

"He was depressed all last week—the week before," Olaeta-Reed said. "I noticed a depression."

"He didn’t do his normal routine," Vazquez said. "Like, get up at 5 and do his workout. He stopped doing that."

Reed's family said he was already a reserved person, but they noticed that he'd been even quieter lately.

"He’s a high-achiever and he sets high goals for himself and some of those goals weren’t met," Olaeta said.

So the search continues, and Reed's family said they just hope he's okay.

Seaside Police ask that anyone with information about Reed's disappearance gives them a call at 831-899-6748.

Police said Reed was reported missing Sunday.

KION spoke to Jenelle Newman, who identifies herself as Reed's cousin, and says Aaron's mother contacted the Seaside Police Department, but they felt that because he is an adult, he could be "voluntarily" missing and would be unable to help.

Newman said they were able to contact a friend of Reed's who said they saw him at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Chipotle by Trader Joe's in Monterey. They were not sure if he was working on an order delivery or if he was there for himself.

The family has still not heard from Reed, according to Newman, and his phone was apparently ringing up until today. They believe his battery may have died and say it is unsettling.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Seaside police at 831-899-6748.
