MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey Public Library said it will be reopening later this week for grab-and-go curbside pickup.

Starting Thursday, customers can pick up library materials curbside Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Customers can place a hold, and they will get a notice that it is ready. They can pick up the item at that point, but must bring a library card, wear a face covering and practice social distancing.

As part of Stage 2.5 of the Governor's Resilience Roadmap, libraries were given permission to reopen for curbside pickup. They have been closed since March.

“The opening of our Library shines as a beacon for the return to normalcy,” said City Manager Hans Uslar. “California’s First Library will be the first to open in the County since the pandemic forced their closures.”

Because the facility is still closed, most staff are still temporarily laid off.
