Cal Fire warns of smoke during firefighter training in south Monterey County
CAMP ROBERTS, Calif. (KION) Cal Fire San Luis Obispo said firefighters will be conducting live-fire training at Camp Roberts East Garrison.
The training will be conducted from Wednesday through Friday at multiple locations, and Cal Fire said smoke will be visible around the Paso Robles area.
During the training, Cal Fire expects that 1,200 acres of grass will be burned and 45 firefighters will participate.
The course is designed to teach firefighters from around California about safely using fire as a tool for fighting wildfires, range improvement and hazard abatement. They will also learn more about ignition tools, equipment, techniques and about what influences fire behavior.
South Monterey County and north San Luis Obispo County residents are asked to take precautions in case they smell smoke during the training.
Cal Fire said the training will be postponed if conditions are not safe.
