Sheriff’s Office warns of callers requesting payment for judicial warrant
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about what it says is a scam taking advantage of the Shelter in Place order.
The Sheriff's Office said that if someone calls saying they work for the Sheriff's Office and are requesting payment for a judicial warrant, do not send money or give out personal information.
The caller reportedly asks for gift cards or vouchers from stores and say the Shelter in Place order has closed the office, so that is how they are collecting debts.
If you are not sure if a call is legitimate, you are asked to call the Monterey County Sheriff's Office at 831-755-3722.
