Man arrested on gun charges in connection to Salinas ShotSpotter activation
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) One man was arrested and another was sited after a ShotSpotter activation in Salinas.
Police received the activation near Rider Avenue and Antigua Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday. A witness told police that an older model VW Bug might have been involved.
An officer saw a vehicle matching the description at Sanborn and Alisal Street and conducted a high-risk traffic stop.
Two people in the vehicle, 22-year-old Miguel Bernabe and 20-year-old Jesus Tienda Hernandez, were arrested after police said they found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun and several spent casings.
Police said Bernabe was cited and released for having a gun in a vehicle, but Hernandez was booked into the Monterey County Jail on gun charges.
