Salinas ag worker hit and killed Wednesday morning

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 5/6/2020 4:15 p.m. A Salinas resident was hit and killed in a crash Wednesday morning near Espinoza and Christensen Roads.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office identifies him as 50-year-old Carlos Aguayo-Rivas, a Salinas resident.

The crash happened when the driver of a vehicle placed it in reverse and did not see Aguayo-Rivas behind him.

Both the driver and victim work for A. Oseguera Company Inc. Criminal charges have not been filed against the driver, and the California Highway Patrol said he is cooperating with the investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY: The California Highway Patrol says one man is dead after being hit by a truck Wednesday morning.

Officials tell KION the call came in around 6:30 near Espinoza and Christensen Roads.

When they arrived to the area near an ag field, they found the driver of a Dodge Ram had put the truck in reverse and struck an ag worker.

The worker was pronounced dead on scene. He was an employee for Christiansen Home Ranch.

The driver is currently being questioned, but no foul play is suspected. OSHA has been contacted and the investigation continues.

There is no current impact to traffic in the area.
