MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) City officials in Monterey said in a news briefing Monday that partial beach closures proved to be successful over the weekend.

City officials said they spoke to police, who said no issues were reported and residents appeared to be complying with orders.

Officials said they would like to thank the public for complying.

The partial closure order was issued by the City Manager Wednesday and took effect on Friday. The order only allows beaches to be used for exercising, and violators could be cited.

The order was issued after officials noticed more people heading to beaches as temperatures warm up.

The city did not have information about any possible parking violations.
