Alisal Union School District offers free dental screenings for migrant students

Alisal Union School District students will receive free dental screenings this week.

The screenings will be offered to students in the district’s migrant program. The program assists families who moved to the Central Coast for jobs in agriculture, fishery, and packing. 660 students are a part of the program.

“The families are new into the area. They don’t have access to many medical services. We want to make sure they receive the medical and dental care that they need,” said the district’s migrant family service advocate, Rosa Gonzales Rivas.

Dental assistants from Clinica De Salud Del Valle De Salinas will visit each elementary school in the district. The assistants inform parents if their child has any visible cavities. They also educate the students about the importance of brushing and flossing.

The migrant program is offering additional help to parents who are looking for local medical and dental services.
