14-year-old girl arrested for allegedly breaking into Salinas home
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) A 14-year-old girl was arrested after police said she broke into a home while the family was sleeping there.
Salinas police said that Saturday at 12:20 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of Tudor Avenue woke up when they heard someone downstairs. When they found that the noises were not coming from their children, the resident called 911.
Police set up a perimeter around the home, and when the homeowner said the suspect was coming up the stairs, they moved to go into the house. When they did that, the suspect opened the front door.
Officers took the suspect, a 14-year-old girl, into custody. Police said she used a pry bar to get into the living room window of the home. Once inside, police said she took items from a purse and was found with car keys, credit cards and a pair of Apple Air pods that belonged to the homeowner.
The girl, who police said was a runaway, was taken to the Monterey County Juvenile Hall and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property.
