City of Salinas requests delay of homeless camp cleanups
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The City of Salinas has decided to delay a homeless camp cleanup scheduled for Monday.
It formally requested that Union Pacific moves the cleanup to April 13. The city said the delay is authorized under the Local Emergency Declaration of the City of Salinas and the statewide Stay at Home order.
"The three week delay will allow the City to work with Union Pacific and community partners to develop a community plan for mitigating the impacts of the cleanup," said City Manager Ray Corpuz.
All regularly scheduled homeless camp cleanups will be delayed until further notice, according to the city.
There have been 14 confirmed coronavirus cases in Monterey County. The Shelter in Place order was issued on March 17. It was originally scheduled to end at 11:59 p.m. on April 7, but the end date was removed to be consistent with the statewide Stay at Home order.
