Crews clean up after Natividad Road fire
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Crews are still cleaning up after a giant fire ripped through agricultural facilities off Natividad Road in Salinas, Saturday.
Dozens of rolls of plastic, used in a nearby strawberry field, were left charred, Sunday. Monterey County Regional Fire District called in bulldozers to help remove the burnt waste.
Monterey County Regional Fire District Captain, Justin Linquist, said the material was waiting to be shipped off and recycled.
"We had a pretty substantial fire working throughout the night. All the material fused together. It was really tough to get all of the fire out of the middle of the material. It's a bunch of fused plastic that was placed into bales and drip pipe. Just agricultural waste was what it was," said Linquist.
Officials said the cause of the firm remains the same as determined in their initial investigation. A truck ran into a power pole, which knocked down the line and sparked flames on the ground.
Many in North Salinas lost power as a result of the incident. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) crews worked to repair the line, Sunday.
Officials predict all power to be restored by Sunday afternoon.
